7.30pm St John's Church Lent lecture: God & Art

Sunday 4th March 2018

Alastair Gordon

You are invited to this year's St John's Lent Lecture, which is on the subject of 'God and Art'.  Previous lectures have been extremely well supported by the churches of Bromley, and this time we can promise you a guest speaker of equal distinction and a subject which is just as engaging as in past years.

This year's lecture takes place at St John's Church, Park Road, Bromley at 7.30pm on Sunday 4th March.  Our speaker is Alastair Gordon, a Scottish-born artist who works from his studio in south London and is also a course leader for the Leith School of Art graduate programme in Edinburgh.  Alastair is co-founder of the Morphē Arts Trust, a mentoring charity for Christians in the Arts, and writes for various publications on contemporary painting and the place of faith in art. He won the Shoosmiths Prize in 2014 and has been shortlisted for the Griffin Art Prize, Threadneedle Painting Prize and The Open West. His second book, God Art, was published in 2017.   You can find his website by clicking here.

Alastair will speak on the topic "God and Art: Signs of faith in contemporary culture".  As in previous years, the format will be a lecture of  approx. 40 minutes, followed by opportunity for questions from the floor.  Refreshments will be served during the interval.
